A gift of art. The power of depiction & perception
Historical facts, natural art
When I was a little child I would look at paintings and prints depicting guru ji, I felt it to be inaccurate. As a child when you see the same series of paintings in homes, it was one way we got to connect to our roots. Despite this, there wasn’t much depiction of the story behind the blessings, the shaheeds. Who were the chaar sahibzaade, how did they connect on a spiritual level to their Guru Ji, paintings (shown as part of this exhibition, explore this).
A brief series of paintings were a good addition to provide a window to our history. However, I felt there could be a stronger way we could capture our rich history. I may not know everything, and sometimes my art surprises me and a medium for education. Who was there, what is the beautiful meaning we have forgotten?
Looking at paintings overall, the stature at times seemed much too small to portray Guru Ji’s physical being. There was little indication of the true light. Skin tones were usually far too fair, clothing style, size of dastaar inaccurate. A beard which missed the electric energy. There was also a time where facial features were depicted as western. Paintings were made based on these depictions and this added another layer towards a step of possible false narratives. A debate occurred about what Guru Nanak Dev Ji actually looked like, I asked where was Guru Ji's strength, revolution and bravery. It is all around us.
With Joyti Kaur art you can find something within all angles. It is created pure and is a pure way of showcasing the beauty of Guru Ji and the Universe they love. This art has been more than a life’s work, I have been blessed to show the passion and protection Guru Ji allows us.
Each art connecting together to show stories of the universe.
Art is very crucial especially for the correct portrayal of history for future generations. We need to relate to the Guru of the universes. For each art I have a behind the scenes video art and written art... Just keep scrolling, and thank you for visiting :)
Guru Gobind Singh Ji
Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the warrior and saint of the Universes and guardian of the world. Through his ancestors and strength, he is connected to Waheguru and all creatures, can you spot them? A Chand (Moon) and Suraj (Sun) celebrate the joining of the true Guru and the world. The Guru showed the light of the one within the darkness of the mind. The Guru showed the power of the lotus flower, the one and the bravery of his Sikhs. The interlocking of the Guru ji’s sakhis (stories) make up his features to show his body is more than what we pursue. He is the history and future I aspire to. I am his little one who is linked through the love of the one to create.
Guru Amar Das Ji
This art discusses the light Guru Amar Das Ji brings to the worlds, like a shooting star amongst darkness, The universe guiding us through the stars. The flight of the peacock bows to Guru Ji's path as they themselves are the stitches of the fabric of the universe
Guru Arjan Dev Ji and The World Window
Guru Arjan Dev Ji has saved all through the ultimate kindness and ultimate sacrifice ensuring those who can conquer their minds could no longer be controlled. Guru ji is more than what is depicted largely today. Guru ji is one with the universe beyond the construct of time. Guru ji’s entire being, so strong... gleaming with the shine of millions of suns that Guru Ji's Daarhi (beard) shows how Guru Ji has become part of the fire, the water, the all… Without the fire harming his true form. The father of the light is seen here as more than the torture methods that such a master warrior overcame, making a difference to all forever and always. Such articulation and strength in Guru Ji’s teachings, saving countless. A perfect and ever so talented Satguru Ji…Showing us how to not waver our minds.
